Queer week is coming! Queer week is coming!
Yup: the Monash Student Association is holding its annual Queer Week this week (Monday 16 to Friday 20 April) at Clayton campus. Queer Week is run by the Clayton campus Queer Department to raise awareness on campus about queer issues, to let queer students know about the services the department provides, and hopefully to have some fun in the process. All queer students and their straight allies are welcome to attend the many events, although the meetings scheduled to take place in the campus Queer Space are queer-only. It'd be great to see some non-Monash people as well.
The programme for the week is as follows:
Monday
11am: Queer Radio broadcast from Monash Radio Centre
12pm: Sexuality SCY2/3021 discussion group in Queer Space
1pm: Queer Action Collective meeting in Queer Space
2pm: Political Plenary on Menzies Lawn (or lecture theatre S5 in case of wet weather). Including guest speakers Kerry Nettle (Greens Senator), Dr Fiona Lee (Philosophy Dept), Asvin Phorugnam (Vic AIDS Council) and more!
6pm: CCQN (Cross Campus Queer Network) meeting at Monash Clayton Queer Space. Banner painting, skill share, food and drink provided.
Tuesday
1pm: Monash Pride Parade (pending sufficient expressions of interest). If you want to get involved, please contact one of the Queer Officers at Clayton campus.
3pm: Queer Radio broadcast from Monash Radio Centre
4pm: Feminism 101 workshop in MSA Meeting Room
6pm till late: Passion Pop Party! in Wholefoods - free for Pride Parade participants, $5 Entry for Community Card holders, $7 Entry for non-Community Card holders.
Wednesday (Day of Silence)
1pm: Silent ceremony on the Menzies Lawn to honour those that have died or faced hardship as a result of queerphobia
6pm: Trans Documentary "M2F: a Journey in Gender Identity" at the Campus Cinema with a discussion panel including guest speakers after the film (gold coin donation – funds to be given to transgender activism projects)
Thursday (Queer Carnival day!)
11am - 5pm: Queer Carnival on Menzies Lawn (or Airport Lounge in case of wet weather). Including bands, BBQ and jumping castle! Featuring a performance by the band GloveBox at 1pm.
6pm: Karaoke/talent night in Wholefoods - $5 entry for Community Card holders, $7 entry for non-Community Card holders.
Saturday Night (April 21)
Queer Comedy at the Opium Den starring Sue-Anne Post and more! (Not a Monash event)
For cheap tickets, contact the Clayton campus Queer Officers. Alternately, door entry on the night is $15. Show starts at 9:30pm.
