Hi Monash queers! I'm typing this message for you from our NEW OFFICE, which I wish Naja and Greg the best of luck with in fitting in more than one person PLUS all the queer department's shit, because this one's DEFINITELY a downgrade. BUT- we are also in the process of moving into our BRAND NEW (kind of) GIGANTIC SPACE, which is super exciting, and I hope everyone comes and checks it out, after we finally get doors. New furniture should be coming in while I'm back in the States, so if anyone wants to volunteer to help Owen, Naja, and Greg out with moving the stuff in once it's delivered, send me a PM on here!

But YAY!!!!! NEW SPACE!

Also? There were mice in our couches. So I think we need to make some serious rules about cleanliness.

"Mice"?  That sounds disturbingly... plural.

OMG! I haven't posted on here for like YEARS! Well, Months really... HI AGAIN!

And yes, because we have a new clean space, we need to keep it that way!!! That could be a reason why some people may avoid the lounge! And we want it to be welcoming right?

Oh mice... that doesn't surprise me, the amount of food left all everywhere. Ah well.

Hopefully having a sink there will help, and people won't feel that taking plates back to wholefoods will be too much of a challenge, since it's...you know...right next to the friggen thing. tongue Also, we should get bigger bins and clearly mark which one is for general rubbish and which one is for recycling.

It is true, we're now located in the former survival center (both sides of it are ours, so we have the capability to partition the room for things like specialised meetings, etc)

Whereabouts is that exactly (i.e. how does one get there)?

It is located Just opposite the John Medley Library (JML http://msa.monash.edu.au/JML/index.htm) which I think is a great feature also. It also adjoins the MSA central space on the other side. Last year it was used as the MAPS lounge. The size is the main feature for us as a collective and as Allegra pointed out the functionality of the room is a bonus. I think most will be happy.

I'll be around all through the holidays apart from the 14-18 of dec and the 3-10 of Jan. Naja and I will be working on the lounge in a rather generic fashion so it's ready for the academic year but of course continuous improvement is important and if you have great ideas to change the physical lounge let us know. Though if you come and look at it now it is in rather a messy state just give it time.

See many of you soon,
Greig.

Hi guys! We're going to start furnishing the lounge pretty soon, so has anyone got any ideas for stuff they'd like in there? Here's some of the things I want (I don't know what Allegra's arranged yet but I'm sure there'll be some overlap):
Couches- new ones that don't stab/envelop anyone, jism and mouse free!
Table- that old one is a safety hazard, someone's foot is going to go through it in the near future
Office chairs - wheeling ftw!
Fridge - cause we have a kiiiitcheeen
Armchair - Greig and I discussed this and thought it would be great to have a one-person chair by the bookshelf for being anti-social and studying and having some quiet time (partition remember).
Magazine rack - and regular magazines to go with!
Whiteboards- so we know all the super exciting stuff going on that's being planned just for you <3

For the first six months anyway. Mice? Ick. Wait...jism? ICK!

-votes yes-

As for other stuff, someone else has already mentioned appropriate bins. Obviously, don't forget a clock. Will the room have the appropriate connections for the five or so people who are constantly using their laptops?

I don't know, a big queer calender of queer social events (uni and wider world related). I can't actually think of what the room requires, since I was only in the old one sporadically.
