Anything by Dan Brown. And a good few by Ben Elton to boot (although it pains me to say it).

catcher in the rye wasnt very good. it was all just whining.
I agree, this was another year 8 text for me. I literally did not finish it. A funny story actually. My English teacher often enlisted me to encourage book reading in class because I was obsessed with reading, but in this case I would spend entire sessions writing compositions on how bad The Catcher in the Rye was rather than reading it. Because of this he quit studying the book with us. He he.

I love Catcher in the Rye! I was like the only person in my class who did.

This is why I love books... everyone's personal experiences with a text varies so much. Yay for literature!

I love reading a text, and then re-reading it to find connections and intricacies that you missed the first time round. I also like picking up a book years later and reading it from a totally different perspective. It's a good way of measuring your own personal growth/change.
Oh heck, I just love reading full-stop. *just bought Ackroyd's history of London from Borders*

I don't re-read as often as I used to. In my teens I'd re-read a series 2 or 3 times if I enjoyed it. Christ (or should I say Lud?) knows how many times I've read Carmody over the years.

I love re-reading books. If I'm specially obsessed with one, I can easily read it more than ten times. If it's a good book, I'll still enjoy it even if I know every plot twist in it.

Lol, I had Carmody in mind when I answered that... Those books had such an impact on me as a child that I plan on including the name Isobelle in a future daughter's name.

She's awesome. Maybe this is the wrong thread to discuss this in, but what exactly is it about Carmody that makes her stand out from a frequently mediocre market?
Have you read the Legendsong series yet? Wow.

Carmody's great, but sometimes I don't like her writing style, its too rambling, particularly in her series (for a good example see: The Stone Key). She's more of an ideas person; she sometimes fails on delivery.
My friend's mum was her editor for years and she was a nightmare apparently. She was no less vague and wordy when I interviewed her at the Melbourne Writer's Festival a few years ago either.
But yes, clearly one the best fantasy authors Australia has to offer, and I love a lot of her work.

She DOES ramble, you're right. And apparently she sleeps with the lights on because she has a fear of vampires, but for some reason I still find myself drawn into her stories. Maybe it's because Obernewtyn was the first ever teenage fantasy book I read, maybe it's because I have a tendency to ramble myself..who knows.

I can imagine she could be quite wordy/vague and a bit eccentric... I think I would be too if I was coming up with the kinds of complex and abstract ideas she writes about, I'd be lost in thought constantly. I must admit I quite like her rambling style, it's exactly how my brain works so it makes perfect sense to me. The Legendsong Trilogy is amazing... so complex. Also, I had to share: My family has gotten me a 1st Edition, SIGNED copy of The Keeping Place for my 21st! It will round off my collection of 1st editions of every book she's ever written.
