House parties are better then any club or pub! Noone seems to believe me but house parties in high school kicked ass where i was from.
God i remember ending so many nights playing at Barwon Valley Fun Park!!! lol
Now back to the original thread... Im assuming by Gay, we're talking exclusivley about males. The Gay(male) scence, is often taken to = gay culture... and to be completely honest (lets not try fooling ourselves), Bars and clubs dominate gay culture. Obviously thats not all there is to it, but it is a large chunk of how gay guys define themselves.
All i ever hear from the loungeroom (as some of you may know) is my housemate and his gaggle of friends screaming out some drivel like "OMG BRITNEY HAS A NEW SONG", shit like that, before they get plastered (leaving the mess for me to clean up) and crawl to Commercial road to pick up some randoms or go to an SOS venue.
I am sick to death of people expecting this behaivour, it fucking pisses me off. One chick at work was shocked to learn that i hadn't been with a guy in 3 months (earlier this year) where she told me that she would introduce one of her gayER friends too me... She even had the ordacity to say to me "I wish you were more gay"... WHAT THE FUCK!? I LIKE MEN AND I AM A MAN... HOW CAN I GET MORE GAY THAN THAT YA FOOL!!!???
This is the reaction from people coming to understand that gay culture revolves around sex and night clubs. Know what i like doing of a night time? Curling up in bed to read, or watch star trek or spongebob...
Getting back to my point. The scene is based predominantly on sex, many guys only go to nightclubs with the goal of getting penitrated in one way or another. Sure there are other types in there, just having fun with friends, whatever... but the majority are there to pick up.
Why don't people like it? because thats the image they're painted by the majority of gay men... *breathes*
tangent like perhaps, but that felt good =P
While I'll do a bit of "gay scene bashing" here, I will reiterate my initial point:
As far as visible, out-and-proud queer people go, that you may spot down the street because they (purposely?) do live up to a gay stereotype - I applaud them, and think they are awesome. We need people like this to advertise to society that being queer is perfectly acceptable and that, just like them, we shouldn't hide ourselves, or feel compelled to hide ourselves. However, as far as the gay scene where gay_scene=gay_nightclubs are concerned, it is a bit troublesome that some people base their ideologies about what they assume gay men are meant to be around that stereotype. I.E. the Brian Kinney stereotype. I've only ever picked up from a gay bar once. I've made out with some other guys at Q+A a long time ago, but just like Badger, I'm hardly the gay sterotype. Apart from my taste in music, I'm not really that obvious. I'm scared to come out at work because of the few people I know will give me a hard time, because they clearly believe in the negative stereotypes about gay men. The worst one being that I must be a promiscous slut, or that I have AIDS (as my sister thinks) and hence be treated like a leper or the devil.
Anyway - I've been distracted for almost an hour watching sci-fi TV on dvd, with this post sitting here as I write nothing. That is just so
gay, huh?
